PHIL'S COMMENTS
Week 1 29th Sept report This is the first week of the new season and some teams have faired better in the summer rain than others. Last seasons runners up Rose and Crown Starling were in action at Rose and Crown Bury both teams started with a blank on the first question but then got going the visitors took an early lead and didn’t look back, the home side with Ian Openshaw, Peter Maguire, Dave Wright and Andy Ainsworth playing, they didn’t have the rub of the green in the stick or twist round and they could not seem to fire on all cylinders in any round. The visitors had the legendary Wally Warrington resplendent in his new tweeds on good form with Kieran Goldsbrough leading and assisted by Lee Sawbridge and Terry Brierley they took a hold of the match and ran out winners 34-52.
Match of the day and team of the week has to be the game at the Swan and Railway Radcliffe where last years wooden spoon A’s were at home to the cup winning and on top form at seasons end B’s. With the A’s led by John Harris having bolstered the team in the close season, they started the season with a close and hard fought win by 40-36 and no dubious decisions by a daft referee.
Last years champions Radcliffe Cricket club hosted notorious slow starters Stopes Tavern but the Taverners must have been on the energy drinks as they didn’t let the champions run away with the match and kept in touch for most of it losing out with a score of 49-39.
Rose and Crown Ramsbottom had the Sundial Walmersley rd visiting and this is always an entertaining match, last year the dialler’s won with a scratch side but this time the Rose were waiting for them and in another close match the home side claimed the win with a score of 43-35.
In another tight match at Heap Bridge Social Club had a Pack horse side riding into battle with the Phoenix Nights lads, normally the lads run a tight game against any side at home but the packhorse have been in training and ran away with the match with a score reportedly of 32-45..

Week 2 Monday 6th OCT
With the Rose Starling closed for refurbishment the in side at the seasons start visit Heap Bridge Social Club and the Phoenix Nights lads, after being on the wrong end of a drubbing last week the lads will want to bounce back but it will be very tough and it may be too tough this week again.
Swan B’S will be wanting to improve on there last weeks result but they could also be run to ground by the visiting Rose Rammy this will be close by all stretches of the imagination.
Packhorse Affetside host the champions Radcliffe cricket club in the match of the week and this could well go close to the wire on last weeks form, slightly controversial but a home win may be on the cards but it will be just!
Stopes have local rivals Swan A’s visiting and they have to be very careful as the A’s may just steal the win this year, it will be close though.
Final game see’s the SunDial at home to Rose Bury with both teams losing out in the first week both have a point to prove so this has the potential to be very nip and tuck an on form Rose Bury would take the points but the home side may sneak it ....just.
