PHIL'S COMMENTS
|
Halfway point in the League, and with the two leaders on a free week, the other contenders for
honours could improve positions.
Match of the week is hard to decide this week but Swan and Railway A who won at home against recent league leader conqueror's Rose and Crown Rammy 45-36 have just pipped it. Mavis must have provided the special elixir for her side and Peter Taylor's Rammy side must be wishing it was still last year, as this year has started with two losses. The close contender for match of the week was the first draw of the season, good scoring for both sides at Stopes Tavern hosting Swan B resulted in a 44-44 tie. The holiday break has certainly turned the season round for Paul Gardner and his team, but has put paid cruely, without the B's playing badly, to Enid Cathcart's and Swan B's league honours ambition's probably. The game between league honour contender's Rose and Crown Bury at home against Heap Bridge Social Club finished with the form side Rose Bury winning 47-37, tough start of the year for the Phoenix nights lads, whilst the Rose Bury keep up their challenge for honours. Final League result of this week is SunDial 39 Pack Horse Affetside 46, both of these sides are capable of beating any league side which belie the lowly league positions of both teams. Or are both Sue Pinder and Eunice contriving a bandit handicap for the end of season cup matches for their teams already, watch this space ummmm! A friendly match at the Rose Starling resulted in Wally's Wonder's beating Lee's legends 50-45 with Helen Goldsborough starring as Questionmaster. With all team's back in action this week, for the start of the return fixture's, it has transpired to throw up some interesting games. The Sundial will host Rose Rammy in a match that may carry a slight bit of grudge with the SunDial featuring a former Rose player, Peter Taylor's Rammy side will want to stop themselves falling further down the table and Eunice will want to bounce back from a defeat which also had a friendly needle edge to it, could it be a draw? Stopes Tavern will receive the Cricket Club in a local derby although Stopes have the potential, a win for the visitor's is the likely outcome, but Stopes maybe are on a roll! The closest of derby matches will also occur at The Swan and Railway where B are "at home" to A, Mavis's A team could just edge this one or will Enid halt a slightly indifferent start to the new year, a good night is predicted though, for all. Pack Horse entertain Heap Bridge, who could find this third away match in a row tough also, with Sue now marshalling the Pack lads into much better form. Match of the week has to be the leaders Rose Stlg against the form side and their nemesis Rose Bury, its a must win game for the Rose Bury in terms of league ambitions, while a back to form Wally may just edge it for the home side, just maybe the watchword eitherway!!!! |
