SECRETARY'S COMMENTS

Thanks to Adrian for the Dungeon A result. St Mary\'s recorded the high score of the night & another game with a very similar pattern of scoring, low 1st half & 2 blank rounds sealed the fate for the Dungeon.
Next out of the traps tonight were the defending Champs against the Stopes Roses & we raced into a commanding 8-4 lead after round 1 & this was pretty much the last input to our game in the 1st half. We conspired to draw 2 complete blanks in rounds 3 & 4 & added a paltry 2 points from the individual round. Thankfully the S of M didnt fare a great deal better & in the lowest aggregate 1st half of the season, we trailed by 5 @ 10-15 as we cursed & cursed at our lack of knowledge of Dan Brown novels, in a stinker of a 1st part question in Rd4. Six points a piece in rd5 & we still had a slender chance of holding on to reduce the defecit, but alas twasnt to be. The stick or twist round would prove to be pivotal as the Shoulder made Hay & we made bad decisions in the chase for glory & we finished 10 points behind. The Shoulder flexed their muscles & showed their class by piling on the points as we made a fist of it by clawing our way to 36 points, but sadly 12 behind the classy Shoulder Boys, well played lads. All seemed tickety boo last week, high scoring all round, but alas it was a blip, this week was tough & a similar pattern was clear to see in the Stopes Cricketers vs Dungeon Game, where they mustered an identical half time scoreline of 10-15, but this time in favour of the visitors. Not sure who went 1st? (did the Cricketers burn on the Angel Falls question?) as did the Shoulder with a wrong answer of the Orinoco.... The Costa Del Salford had certainly stoked the fires of the Dungeoneers as they held on for a famous victory (I guess they may still be celebrating as I hit the Ivories??) it was backs to the wall as they defended an ever dimisnishing lead, to hang on for a 2 point victory 37 to 39 & oh how they rejoiced!!! Great win lads. Margarets Legionaires made the short journey up the road to the Hare & Hounds & in another low scoring 1st half they were cussing & swearling at drawing a blank in rd2, but were surprisingly only 3 behind. More head scratching ensued in rounds 3 & 4 adding only 8 more, but still in the hunt being only 5 behind @ 13-18. As in the previous games, the scoring improved & both sides answered more questions more frequently to register a final score of 35 - 43 & I guess both sides were glad it was all over. That was bl**dy hard work, barring a miracle at the Dungeon, scoring was difficult tonight. But I have to take my hat off to the Shoulder, the Orinoco prevented them from yet again getting into the 50\\\\\\\'s & with the Cricketers slipping up, their massive advantage could secure them a second successive league championship next week, unless the Hairy Hounds can dent their 100% record?? |
