SECRETARY'S COMMENTS
|
Lets start with the 2 local Derby's, that the fixture generator has thrown up this week. Up at the Dungeon it was anyone's game, with both teams enjoying mixed fortunes, it was a toss of a coin to determine who would run out victors. In the absence of a score-sheet, the final score of 42-38 possibly indicates it went down to Rd8 to split the 2 teams up, well played both, but Adrian & Co take the A team into double figures & a very respectable 4th place.
With the log fire blazing away on full throttle, it was hoped the Roses could keep the heat on their in form "B-team" :) & dent their very impressive current run of form. Could the Roses make it 3 wins on the bounce?? Phil elected to go 1st & in a relatively low scoring 1st half, we were even-stevens at the break with 17 a piece. Another stinker of a 1st question, resulting in nil points, stopped the Cricketers in their tracks & a solitary reply from us, due to our ignorance of Gemstones. Mirror image scoring tied both sides on 29 after 6 rounds & a nervous nail biting finish looked ominous. But alas, the Cricketers team of Phil, Ken, Tony & John proved just too hot to handle & managed to put a 5 point advantage on the card over the final 2 rounds & ran out worthy winners, despite some stout resistance from Ann, Terry, Lee & Bob. The Hairy Hounds licked their wounds after last weeks mauling & showed they are made of stern stuff. They made light work of St Marys with an impressive 34-51 win to take them up to 3rd place. In an almost identical game, the Shoulder registered the high score of the evening & lie menacingly in wait in second spot care of a 53-34 win over the Legionnaires of Ramsbottom. Chin up Margaret, you've got us next week!!!! I'm quick to comment when there is an imbalance, or the quiz is simply pitched at the wrong level, so credit where its due, we do seem to be enjoying a run of very even & competitively compiled contests.....with the exception of Rd4, so 7 out of 8 aint bad!!! One more league game to take us to the half way stage of the season, I hope you are all enjoying it as much as we at the Stopes are, with possibly 1 exception?? Please let me have numbers for the Xmas Quiz & can I remind all teams to provide some seasonal fayre for the raffle & I might just muster up a little prize for the most bad-ass christmas jumper, so do your worst!!! |
