SECRETARY'S COMMENTS
Go on then, I'll start with our game & give you a blow by blow account of how we overcame the odds & did the impossible by beating the in-form Shoulder. Probably one of the stiffer selection of questions this week, resulting in a very low aggregate score of 38 & under normal circumstances, this rarely suits our finely tuned brainwaves. Like hell it did, the Shoulder elected to go second & we were off & running. After barnstorming the 1st 4 rounds & winning everyone, we held a very healthy 9 point lead at the break. 27-18. As we often see, the game can swing for or against you in the second half & it was the Shoulders turn to put us to the Sword. They rallied the troops & charged right back at us. Care of 2 blanks in the Rd 6, after we failed to recognize the Longboat as Rovers Logo & we know close to Jack-Sh&t about our feathered friends. The lead was completely eroded & we now led by a solitary point, 35-34. The individual Rd extended our lead to 3 points as we nervously entered the last Rd. 40-37 up. What an absolute nightmare, three questions in & we haven't scored, the Shoulder have 5 & for the 1st time in the game, we are trailing with a question a piece to go. Surely the Shoulder would secure victory as Steven gave a perfect description of the beautiful young woman, with flowing blonde locks in the hair shampoo advert. Thankfully, despite lots of gears grinding Steve just couldn't come up with Ellie Goulding, thankfully we did & it was a 1 question shoot out for victory & the rest as they say is history. A cracking game & after almost 24 hours since our win, there is still no sign of a little brown envelope from the Cricketers!!!! The Hairy Hounds v RBL A was an almost mirror image of our game, they elected go go 1st & scored like for like in Rds 1 to 4 for the same 9 point lead we had. RBL chased them down in the second half & a bonus point in the last Rd, saved the Hound drawing a blank as they held their nerve to win 43-40 & that single point in Rd4 was probably the difference between winning & losing for RBL. The Dungeon cannot buy a win, Ladyluck has done a runner, no amount of Lucky Heather & Rabbits Feet are having any effect, try Voodoo Mike!!! Another closely fought game, but yet again on the wrong end of a 44-39 scoreline, lots of luck, but its all bad. The low scoring game of the night was at St. Marys. Judging by the score 35-20, I guess both sides didn't relish the question setting tonight. As questionmaster, this was the one I was glad to sit out tonight, only Wk5 gleened fewer points, 300 to tonights 306. It was a tough un. Hopefully there will be some Seasonal Joy about next week & an easier, more GENERAL offering.
