PHIL'S COMMENTS

The weather affected the league fixture this week with the heavy snow grounding the Ramsbottom teams as the reindeers were on holiday. Games will be played at a later date.
A game that survived was the game at Hare and Hounds Holcombe Brook as Yosemite Sam Reports.
In the bleak mid winter, much snow lay on the ground,
Stopes Elves parked at Co-op, as suggested by a Hound.
The match was on; pitch inspection was not needed here,
Both teams warming by the log fire, enjoying the wonderful beer.
Elves elected to go first. First round was 6 points apiece.Peter Maguire's Los Angeles gave Hounds a 2 point lead in 2nd Round.3rd Round drawn at 6 points apiece again.
Stick or twist saw the Elves guess at 2nd question and result in a zero. Hounds played safe and stuck on 1, giving them a 3 point lead at half time. The next 3 rounds went to the Hounds 6-2, 8-6, 6-2, giving them an unassailable lead of 13 points going into the final round, which was just as well, as the Hounds blanked on their first 3 questions of Round 8. An unusual event then occurred (as pointed out by Paul Gardner) after the Stopes Elves failed to answer their 3rd question in Round 8, it was passed across to the Hounds who answered it correctly to score the first and only bonus point of the night. Spurred on by this The Hairy Hounds answered their final question correctly, giving a final round score of 3-2 to the Hounds and a win on the night 42-28. Stopes took the beer leg 19 -18. As he was driving and the weather and roads were worsening, Andy Ainsworth rounded up the Hounds to head for home. The Stopes Elves stayed on enjoying their beers by the fireside and might still be there now, but I can think of worse places to get snowed in at.
Swan and Railway Radcliffe A’s visited the SunDial Walwersly road where the visitors were full of praise for the hosts for there hospitality and co-operation in playing the quiz straight through with no break and deleting the beer leg from proceedings so the visitors could make it home early due to the weather worsoning during proceedings, the Swans were all grateful. This quick match format suited Barney and the Harem as they ran away with the match and recorded a 42 -26 point win and the team of the week award.
Final Game was the visit of Rose and Crown Starling to the Phoenix knights at Heap Bridge, with the falling snow a worrying factor for both teams the game started well for the visitors out to avenge the first half defeat, the first round went to the Rose 4-7 but the home team hit back in round two, the individuals, to pull back to within a point 11-12. Round three turned out to be a disaster for the knights when they picked up only two points against the visitors eight, and the stick or twist was evens at two apiece for a half time score of 15-22.Round Five saw the home side of Neil Jones, Barrie Birch, Robin and Steve Henry pick up useful points and start the comeback trail taking the round 5-2 to be only four points back and a double over last years champions was a possibility. Four or two round saw another two gained when a score of 8-6 was posted and it was only the second individual that the visitors steadied the score with a two point win on the round to post a score of 30-34 going into the last round, with the visitors perspiring they managed to hold on to lose the round just 4-3 and post a win but only just at 34-37. And out of the three that took place it was Match of the week.
The Packhorse was making a troika this week.
One of the re-arranged fixtures took place at the Radcliffe Cricket Club on March 2 nd when the now Champions hosted the Rammy Rose and Crown. Phil Dodd’s men had lost again last night, against the Cricket Club in a close game and so did not want to lose two nights running, whilst the visiting Rose Rammy Taylor’s Tigers had beaten the Swan B in the match of the week, but this weeks questions were a different kettle of fish for both sides and in a match that the cricketers took a hold of the visitors could not repeat there win and the Cricketers confirmed the Championship with a 44-34 win.
Final match has the Rammy Cricket Club hosting the Swan B but the questions will be a different set, as the Swan’s had huddled round them to keep warm on this snow bound evening, this match is to be re-arranged and a report will be added later.

Week 13Monday 11th Jan 2010
This weeks action could be posponed if the weather closes in again but the schedule of games have set up some intreguing games.
First match on the list is Swan and Railway A who have the Hairy Hounds visiting and the Hounds are hungry for honours so the Swans may be ice bound this week and frozen out. An away win but the Hounds will have to watch there step as the Swans could spring a surprise!
Rose and Crown Starling have the Swan and Railway B’s visiting, the home team struggled last week to score and the swans could pounce on any weakness shown, this is potentially match of the week but if the home team get it together then the swans may just crack. A home win but it could just be a draw!!!
Ramsbottom Cricketers host Heap Bridge Phoenix knights, with the knights being comeback kings last week almost, as they ran starling very close, they are favourites for this fixture. They Cricketers will have to show form from the seasons opening matches to win. An away win but the home side may surprise the knights to draw!!!
Another potential match of the week is at Stopes Tavern, the elves have the leaders Radcliffe Cricketers skiing in to the derby match, if the elves can show there normal post Christmas form then this match can be won, but last week they maybe was weather affected, no sorry it was real ale affected at the hounds venue. An Away win is hard to go against but it will be no surprise to see a home win.......... and it is my forecast!
Final match this week is the SunDial hosting the PackHorse Affetside, another good matchup on recent form and the Sundial have shown good form last week and are the team to beat, if Sue and the lads had a good Christmas they may just prevail but my tip is a home win!
Rose and Crown Rammy are clearing the drive of snow this week!!!
