SECRETARY'S COMMENTS
|
Evening All!! Well here we are, 3 games to go & its getting towards the business end of the season. A strange set of results tonight, with a massive 25 point difference between the lowest & highest scores?? I wasn\'t able to play, so I\'m unsure how fair the quiz was, or maybe wasn\'t??
The fate of the league title was firmly in the grasp of the Shoulder as they skipped down the hill, hand in hand to the British Legion, secure in the knowledge, that a win tonight would cement a successful defence & a second successive victory. So off they trotted & in the absence of a scoresheet, I cannot give this match report the full Hurrah it deserves & give you a blow by blow account of how the game panned out. Jason reported that the 1st half was a very close affair, with only 1 point seperating them. The Shoulder found their best form in rounds 5-8 & would run out comfortable winners 37-54 (to be confirmed) & a collective sigh of relief & much back-slapping was the order of the day & deservedly so, champions again!!! Congratualtions to Jason, Steve, Paul & Andrew & the odd mercenary who has helped them along the way. Getting to the top is hard, but staying there is even harder, ask Claudio Ranieri at Leicester City!!! Just the 100% record to hang on to now..... Dungeon B vs A & Dave Russell has set his sights on another famous win against stern opposition & the added bonus of leap-frogging the opponents if they can repeat the same form from 2 weeks back at Stopes. The scoresheet doesn\'t lie, the scoring was poor, with the B\'s just edging ahead 17-13 in a lack-lustre 1st half. After 5 rounds, its Oh so close, B are only 2 in front & the Pinders had the smell of blood in their nostrils....the B\'s made Hay in the stick or twist & extended their advantage to 7 points care of a 11-6 rout. The last 2 rounds decended into farce for both teams, as a complete blank for the A\'s in the individual rd. gifted another 7 points & victory to the exstatic hosts, who returned the favour & totally capitulated in rd8 & drew a blank safe in the knowledge it was incidental & up they jumped to the rarified atmosphere of 6th spot, care of a nerve jangling 40-32 win. The Hare & Hounds played hosts to St Mary\'s & it was even money on both who run out victors, way to close to call!! & the Bookies tight odds were well founded as they traded blows & they just couldn\'t be seperated round after round. The visitors led by 3 points, 33-35 as they entered the last round (which must have been a stinker) & with only a paltry 3 to be gleened for the Hounds, it was game over, as Alec\'s boys 5 points saw them take the spoils at 36-40 & I guess they were glad it was over?? Now then!!! I\'ve saved the best til last & looking at this scorecard, I have to question if they actually played the same set of questions, as they made a mockery of the quiz with the nights high aggregate by some distance... Two teams at the top of their form, the Cricketers vs Roses & Nigel must have skoked up the flames in the log-fire by a few degrees, becasue both were red hot!! Round 4 must have caught all teams out tonight, not an 8 in sight & 2 to the hosts & 4 to the Roses saw them head to the bar trailing by 5 at 21-25. Two full houses followed in rd5, an impressive 12 to 8 in rd6 saw Phil & company trailing by only 1 point 41-42 & it was game on!!! Level pegging in the 2nd individual at 4 a piece led to a nerve jangling last round. (Phil, there is a scoring error on the card, 42 + 4 is 46, not 48) all academic, because Ann, Lee, Bob & Terry went mad & clocked up a massive 9 points to 2 & they were home a dry at 55-47 care of a rout in the last round, great game, well played all, will I get a game next week?? The draw for the Knock-Out Cup will be made after the last game of the season & handicaps allocated. Personally, I\'m not a fan of the present system based on average points scored, in theory you could potentially have a situation where the Champions were receiving a handicap over a lower placed team. I\'d prefer the same system we use in Bowls, winners off scratch & then 2,4,6,8, etc down the league. Thoughts on a postcard please, its only a idea, I can\'t find anything in the rules (I can\'t find the bl**dy rules!!!) |
