SECRETARY'S COMMENTS
|
Sorry its late folks, the technology Gremlins seem to have conspired against me this week, I didn\'t think changing phones could be so traumatic!!
Normal service has now been resumed & good scoring all round this week indicates a fair set of questions, with a level playing field for both teams & 1st up tonight were the Dungeon A against RBL. Mike Pinder is the \"tinkerman\" of the league captains, as he rarely plays the same team 2 weeks running & most often to good effect. Margaret would be looking to avenge last weeks mauling & at only 4 behind after 4 rounds, they were making a fist of it. The defecit was doubled in round 5 & that pretty much sealed their fate, despite a late rally, out-scoring the Dungeon in the last 3 rounds, the hosts cruised to victory by 46 to 41 Second & third up next & these 2 have been inseperable all season, so why change tonight? Excellent scoring on both sides saw the Cricketers sneak a 3 point half time lead when Alecs Allstars drew a blank on the stick or twist & so the game continued in the same style & St Marys levelled the scoring at 39 across after 6 rounds. The final 2 rounds went in favour of the visitors & they secured a hard fought 2 points to run out winners 46 - 51, great scoring on both sides. The Champs vs Dungeon B, could there be an upset on the cards? If the season had started after Christmas, the Dungeoneers would be right up there, reputaions count for nowt as they defy the odds & claim scalp after scalp & with a 5 point lead at half time, they must have fancied their chances of throwing the Shoulder under the Bus & wrecking their 100% record. Six rounds in & there is still the same daylight between them, nails are being bitten & orifices are twitching in the home camp!! & it did go down to the wire with honours even at the last question & they both answered correctly for a 49 point draw, with both sides holding an inquest into where they could have garnered another point for victory... Last up, The Roses vs The Hairy Hounds. Even Stevens & again for the 3rd time tonight a big fat zero in the stick or twist round saw Stopes trailing by a single point 17-18 at the break. The was close to bu**er all between us, but the gap widened to 4 points after 7 Rd\'s & that is how it finished as we shook hands going down 43-47 in a cracking game, but ruing the no-show in round 4. There has been some response to my proposal to change the handicap & it has all be positive in favour & so it will be straight forward enough to work out your handicaps after next weeks final game, when the draw for the 1st round will be made. Just a reminder that we have the League Presentation Night on the 20th March & if anyone is keen to set the quiz, now is the time to shout up. Its a light-hearted affair, 60-70 questions, maybe a picture round & music?? If anyone is willing to set a season finale, please let me know ASAP, otherwise I will set it. |
