SECRETARY'S COMMENTS
|
Lets start at the top & with the league in the bag, it was only the small matter of defending their unbeaten record, against the stiffest of opposition. The Shoulder braced themselves for an all out assault by the Cricketers & boy they didn\\\'t disappoint...
Two teams in the rudest of health & scoring heavily from the onset, they both showed their true credentials & stood toe to toe & slugged it out. The Cricketers edged the 1st 3 rounds, but true to form the Shoulder responded with a full house in Rd4 to only 4 from the visitors & there was only 1 point between them in favour of Stopes at 25-24 & everything to play for.... The tables were turned & off shot the Shoulder & a 6 point advantage in the Stick or Twist saw them amass a comfprtable 8 point lead & effectively cemented the win, with the Cricketers only halving the defecit over the last 2 rounds. Final score Shoulder 56 - 52 Cricketers & they remain unbeaten over 14 games & quite rightly deserve the mantle of champions, well played fella\\\'s & congratulations on another record breaking season. Hare & Hounds played hosts to the Pinders & Co from the Dungeon A & I must say the result goes against the grain of recent form & scoring, as they didn\\\'t travel well tonight & failed to get out of 1st gear. In a totally 1 sided game, the Hounds scored freely to little response from the frazzled visitors & the end was a blessed relief, for the by now, punch drunk visitors. Excellent scoring from the Hounds winning 54 - 32, one to forget Mike!!! We made the journey to the ever so cosy environs of the Dungeon B, the fire was roaring & provided the perfect environment for a game against the team, that last week came closest to de-railing the Champions run away train...& they were still ruing their failure to get over the winning line, after settling for a draw. With a make_shift team, they failed to re-discover last weeks form, but they did regain some respectibility to their 1st half no-show, when they doubled thier score, care of a full house in Rd4 & only trailed by 5 at the break 16-21 An absolute stinker in Rd 6, only picking up 2 points, meant it was game over, when they trailed by 11 with only 2 rounds remaining & it was a morale boosting win for the Stopes 45 - 37 as we head into next weeks knock-out Cup. Only the result to record for the last game of the night, as the British Legion hosted the leagues runners up, St Mary\\\'s & the result went the way of the visitors, but only by the narrowest of margins as St Marys won 40-37 See next weeks page for the Cup draw & handicaps. I opted for the proposed change of the Champs always being off scratch & giving 2 points to second, 4 to third & so on. There are winners & losers, but top are off zero & RBL are of 14, the same as the previous system. Good luck in the Cup. In the absence of a rush to be the Quiz Setter for the Presentation night, you will have to put up with one of my efforts, be warned!!! |
