SECRETARY'S COMMENTS
|
The main event of the evening was a Heavyweight bout & in the Red corner we had the defending champions, The Shoooooowlder of Mutton & in the Blue Corner, the contenders..... Stoooooooowpes Cricketers & Round 2 of 3 title deciding bouts was a mouth watering meeting, I'll leave the rest to Jason, who sums up the nights event perfectly.
A tense and fraught match last night, with both teams playing safe at a number of points recognising that the odd point here and there might be enough to win it. We found ourselves 10-4 down after the first round but a reversal of the same scores saw it 14 each after the second. With the cricketers scoring 1 of the possible 8 in the stick or twist we thought we might be in and gambled on our question only to draw a blank but still leading by 2 at half time. Caution set in and we played safe on the 2 part questions scoring 10 when we could have gone for the full house and from then on we pretty much matched each other but having dropped a question we went into the last round 1 point behind at 44-45. With the cricketers dropping a couple we sneaked ahead only to fail on The Shadows question and with the lads from Radcliffe picking up the bonus all they needed was Anthony Burgess to draw level! However it wouldn't come and the fact we didn't know either didn't matter as the scores ended at 50-48. A good match all round and well played by the cricketers ... I just wouldn't want to do it every week as the nerves wouldn't stand it! It appears by all accounts that the last round decided the outcome of every game last night & those teams who elected to go 1st certainly needed a good lead to avoid hitting the Buffers. Good to see RBL B making a great effort to almost grasp their 1st elusive victory at the expense of the Hairy Hounds, but again I suspect they fell foul of that awful Rd8. A good win for Alec & Co against an in-form RBL A & whilst the Roses were back to something like their normal form after last weeks horror show, they couldn't contain the Dungeon who equalled the high score of the night. A perfectly pitched quiz, refelcting the even scoring, with the biggest winning margin being a paltry 6 points, lets hope there are more to come. |
