SECRETARY'S COMMENTS
The Knock-Out Cup always throws up some interesting fixtures & the handicapping ensures that regardless of your league position, you can throw the form book out of the window, no team is invincibleā€¦& tonight would be no exception.

Now then, this was one hell of a toughie tonight as the scoring reflected and you will have to search long & hard to see a stranger result than in one of the games.

Lets start off up the Hill of Holcombe & we took on the reigning Champs, no doubt with aspirations of pulling off a famous double & they very kindly gave us an 8 start, would it be enough? We elected to go 1st & it was almost even Stevens on scoring thru 2 rounds, we had only given up 1 point & led by 7. Two more rounds of us holding our own & the game is still in our favour care of the handicap.

Glasses replenished & its onwards & upwards for the visitors who piled on the agony by increasing their lead in every round with an inspired team of Linda, Bob, Lee & Terry finding their very best form, whilst the hosts uncharacteristically scratched their heads on many occassions. The gap widened & it was game set & match after 7 rounds & we cruised over the line comfortable winners 54-37 & we could hardly contain ourselves....excellent hospitality as always from Jason, Paul, Steve & Chris, not forgetting Meg & Richard, WHEY HEY were through to the next round!!!!!!

St Marys v RBL next & the visitors received a 12 point start on the hosts & it paved the way for a very competitive match. Margaret, Susan, Ian & Tony rose to the occassion & outscored mine hosts in every round to reach the half way stage a massive 17 points ahead & St. Marys gave themselves a mountain to climb in the second half.

Suitably attired with Crampons, Cleats & Carabiners, off they set up the North Face. Aided by a total collapse from RBL, they recorded two 10 point rounds in 5 & 6, to a miserly 0 & 4 & miraculously were only a point behind at 32-33 & it was game on.

Rd 7 would prove pivotal in favour of RBL as they won it 7-4 & took a 5 point cushion into the last round, but alas it was just out of reach for Sherpas, Harry, Enid, Colin & Ian as they would succumb in the final ascent 41-44 & Margaret & Gang were worthy winners in a hard fought contest.

Next up Cricketers & The Hairy Hounds & my money was staying in my pocket, way to close to call, especially as the Hounds were giving a very generous 2 point start to Phil, Tony, Colin & Mark (Im guessing!!) The Hounds went 1st & it was parity at 7 a piece in Rd1, they couldnt maintain this form in 2 & 3 & despite Phil & all registering a big fat zero in R4 they still found themsleves trailing by 6. This was reduced to only 3 points after the 5th Rd & this is whereit all went horribly wrong for the Hounds, only registering 2 points in the Stick or Twist & the gap increased to 7 & with only 2 more in the individual Rd, it was curtains for the visitors as they stumbled over the winning line in second place, some distance behind at 28-39 & the slightly advantageous handicapping proved irrelevant, as the Hounds possibly registered their lowest score of the season?? I await Ians Txt to prove me wrong :)

Ive saved the craziest result of the season til last & lets not take anything away from the best performance of the night from Mike Pinders A Team, becasue they scored 52 points & confounded my thoughts of it being one of the toughest quizzes of the season...Dungeon B recently scared the life out of the Shoulder, but just couldnt find anything like that form as they struggled form the off. The scorecard makes for painful reading & my sympathies go out to Pete, Paul, Chris & John, because we have all been there, probably to a slightly lesser degree, when it just aint going your way & if the question was \"whats your name\" you would get it wrong....one to forget lads, if you say it quietly, it doesnt sound quite so bad, shhhhhsh 52-14

The draw for the semi-final round was carried out in the Shoulder & the fixtures are on next weeks page.

The final is as usual at the Hare & Hounds on the 13th, can you please give me an indication on the numbers who will be attending, to allow Ian to prime the Hounds on the number to cater for. Good luck next week.
