PHIL'S COMMENTS
|
Good scoring and closely competitive matches with one entertaining exception this week. The match of the week was a very close decision but it just goes to the Sun Dial hosting Paul Gardner's late season form side Stopes Tavern. Eunice's Sun Diallers must be wondering if any of these close fought matches will swing their way, as they were narrowly defeated yet again. Score 32-35. The Taverners are showing some end of season cup-winning form maybe?
Close run thing for match of the week, was the visit to the Racecourse Radcliffe of Rose and Crown Rammy. Peter Taylor's side must have worried title chasing Phil Dodd's Cricket Club side, but the Rose Rammy eventually succumbed to the home side 43-39. The Swan and Railway A had the excellent Rose and Crown Bury side visiting. Mavis's sparkling tonic was replaced by wine from Tuscany with some Greek plate smashing thrown in for good measure, as Rose Bury ran away with the match 12-55 but as usual, at the Swan an enjoyable entertaining time was had by all. Final game played this week with Swan B and Heap Bridge on free weeks was the derby match at the Pack Horse Affetside with the leaders Rose and Crown Starling visiting. Mike Pinder's Pack Horse are hitting some form at last, with some good scoring from Simon Waddington and James Perkin alongside a good recruit to the side of James Hutton. They swapped the lead with the Rose during the first half of the match, but the Rose scored heavily in the second half, especially rounds 5 and 6 to pull away. The well-watered visiting legend Wally Warrington even took to barracking question master Sue Pinder at one point, but was summarily dismissed by the able thespian Sue, who had to project her voice most of the night for the legend to hear, even though he was sat next to her. Terry Brierley and Lee Sawbridge starred for the visitors with the final score 44-55. Week 17 Game of the week has no argument this week, and it could be the decider for league runners-up honours. The consistent Rose and Crown Bury host Radcliffe Cricket Club, with the Cricketers having to win to chase the title and the Rose having to win to have a chance at taking the runners-up spot. This match will definitely be hard fought. A prediction on the outcome is hard but with the Cricketers showing surprising signs of nerves recently, I can see a narrow home win on the cards, but the Rose Bury will have to be on their best mettle to do it. Heap Bridge are back in action with the visit of the Swan A team. The Phoenix Nights Water Rats will be too strong for the visitors at home, unless Mavis's elixir is back at its strongest. Swan B return from the free week to face the Pack Horse at home. With both teams hitting scoring form recently, this one would have been game of the week any other week as it is too close to predict. Another draw may be on the cards. Leaders Rose Starling host the Sun Dial in the final game of the week. Eunice's Sun Diallers have lost some very close encounters in recent weeks and this one may be the same unless the Sun Dial are on top form. Stopes Tavern and Rose and Crown Rammy are on a free week. *** Cup Handicaps and draw will be announced shortly. *** |
