Web Week 16 24th Jan 2011
The leadership of the league has changed hands this week as long time leaders Rose and Crown Starling fell foul to a very competitive SunDial Walmersley Rd side. The visitors chose to go first and it proved to be a telling decision as a two point half time lead disappeared and Helen’s Harem took the last two rounds to win 49-43.
New league leaders are the reigning champions Radcliffe Cricket Club who hosted the Radcliffe Derby this week and had the Stopes Tavern Elves visiting. The visitors couldn’t match the champions late in the match and went down to a 55-40 score.
Team of the weeks this week is the PackHorse Affetside who visited the Heap Bridge Social Club and out jousted the Phoenix Knights in a very close match with a score of 50-48.
A very close dual was fought at the Shoulder of Mutton Holcombe Village where the St. Mary’s Radcliffe A’s were visiting, John Heenan reports that the honourable draw was the apt result at 45 -45, to take the match of the week award.
St. Mary’s Radcliffe B’s hosted the Ramsbottom Cricket Club and continued there recent high scoring form by overcoming the visitors to win with a 52-32 score.
Final report this week is the derby match at Hare and Hounds Holcombe Brook who had the Rose and Crown Ramsbottom visiting Yosemite Sam Reports:-
Third Quiz Monday of two thousand and eleven and Rose and Crown Ramsbottom had the long trek to the foreign parts of Holcombe Brook. On a night that the Question Mistress was slightly in distress , due to some dodgy meat the quiz didn’t start until slightly late . Both teams after a very quick discussion agreed to forego the latest timings edict (allowed when both teams agree) and the quiz commenced. Rose Rammy elected to go first, but it was the Hairy Hounds who shot into an early lead winning round one 7-5.
Round Two went six all.Round three was the start of Taylor’s Tigers leading the aitches to the launderette, as they took the round 2-8 a score also repeated in round four. This gave a halfway score of Hare and Hounds 17 Rose and Crown 27.
Round Five went 4-5 to the Tigers. Round sixand Ramsbottom Roses again crowned the round scoring one max and three halves when they should have had three maxes and a half. The shell shocked Hairy Hounds played safe, for reasons none of them understoodand scored four halves when they also should have scored three maximums and a half. Round seven saw the Tigers continue to apply the pressurewith a full house and a bonus to take the round 4-9. Round eight saw the Hounds score their second seven of the night and take a second round win on the night 7-3 but they had already been hung out to dry by the Ramsbottom Roses. Final Score Hare and Hounds 40 Rose and Crown Ramsbottom54. Having dispensed with the timings the eight rounds had taken 52 minutesand the quiz was over by 9.31 pm. Beer leg also taken by the Tigers, was over by 9-45pm and we had to wait for the grub. Monday Night’s ain’t wot they used to be.
Quite a few Complaints from many different teams have been received again recently regarding the time taken to answer questions by quite a few of all the teams, no names no packdrill and due to this reason please can teams note that the question master can after sixty seconds maximum pass over the question, answer given or not and the passed over question can be disqualified after further fifeteen seconds if no answer is forthcoming. These rules are, as always are subject to the question masters discretion on the night taking into account background noise etc. Sorry for this announcement although the actual rules provide tighter timings, this is a reasonable time it is felt, to provide an answer and not spoil the night’s enjoyment. Please can home teams inform there question masters and announce the times at the start of the quiz night.
The teams that are yet to pay there subs for the year could they please provide payment to Margaret Chamberlain Rose Rammy at the earliest opportunity please.
A new league Secretary, web author and Bury Times reporter will be required next season could all interested parties put there name forward please.

Week 17 31-1-2011
Another full fixture list this week and competitive matches are in prospect.
Heap Bridge Social Club host the Shoulder of Mutton Holcombe Village and a tough match on form is in prospect both teams scored well last week and this game may go down to the last round a draw is the serious prediction but a small win either way would not surprise.
St. Mary’s A’S Host new league leaders Radcliffe Cricket Club and the hosts recent run of good form will have to improve to hold the champions a n away win predicted.
Stopes Tavern host the Hare and Hounds Holcombe Brook and will have to improve in form to hold the Hare and Hounds, the visitors will be wanting to keep pressure on the league leaders and will be up for the match an away win but only just.
Rose Ramsbottom host SunDial and will want to keep last weeks form rolling as will the visitors, potential match of the week and another draw will not be far off but the hosts may just have enough.
Rose and Crown Starling host St. Mary’s B’s with the rub of the green not going the hosts way recently this match is going to be very tough and another loss is on the cards for the hosts. as the visitors have been scoring heavily recently.
Final match this week has the PackHorse Affetside visiting the Ramsbottom Cricket Club and on form alone the visitors may just have the edge if they keep up last weeks form.
