SECRETARY'S COMMENTS
|
Well then, I doubt very much anyone saw this set of results coming!!!
Its tough at the top, as the 3 runaway leaders found out, with all 3 faltering & RBL, yet again proving to be thorn in the side of their local rivals & the current league leaders. The Shoulder became their next victim in a current red-hot run of form & RBL's ascent of the League table continues. As impressive a win as RBL's was, I have to save the loudest applause for St. Mary's as they amassed a huge tally of 59 & thumped the 3rd placed Hairy Hounds by 18 points, well played Alec, Enid, Harry & Alan?? I doff my Cap in your general direction... Back at the Stopes it was a very local Derby & despite a recent wobble, all the clever money would have been on the Cricketers to take the spoils...& as the game progressed, it was looking like the hot favourites were fully justified. That is until the stick or twist, when a resurgent Roses clawed their way back into contention & whilst still trailing by 5, we were making a decent fist of it. Rd7 & we reduced the deficit to 3 & the air was thick with the smell of fear!!! & it would eventually all hinge on the very last question of the night, when lying at 48 a piece, Roses (Terry) dug deep & came up with John Birch & we rejoiced in a rare win over Phil, Mark, Tony & Ken & the last question was the 1st time we led, talk about leaving it late!! By all accounts, it was an almost identical game over at the Dungeon in the final stages, after Pete & the B team overcame a huge half time deficit & were just pipped at the post in the final Rd. So, no change at the top & with 4 games to go, it is still effectively a 3 Horse race & there could be plenty of chewed nails & furrowed brows in the final encounters. |
