PHIL'S COMMENTS
Week18
In a high scoring and closely contested week, the title issue was settled. Congratulations to the Rose and Crown Starling who have retained their league title. The champions had travelled to a re-invigorated Stopes Tavern, whose team of Paul Gardner, Roger Bolt, Bert Bullough and Harry Dutton only really started their season at Christmas. The match was closely fought most of the way and it was the poor round three for the home side that gave the visitors a lead which was never hauled back. Playing well for the Rose on the night was Kieran who had high wind on an individual level, the legendary Wally who knew about all about tree rings from a misspent youth many, many years ago. Also Anne Thompson was batty throughout the evening and Jayne supported her. The score ended at 53-60.
Match of the week is a joint affair for different reasons. The Rose and Crown Rammy, where Sue Booth's knowledge of Iberian artists and not beery artists for a change was crucial on the night, beat the visiting Heap Bridge S.C. in a very close match 52-49.
The other match of the week was at the Sun Dial where the Swan and Railway B had their wings clipped by Eunice and Helen's side 48-41, Sun Dial coming out on top for a welcome change.
Final league match was at the Swan and Railway A and the Loch Ness monster didn't make an appearance with the Radcliffe Cricket Club enhancing their runners up chances by winning 40-64.
A friendly match was held at the Pack Horse and the visiting Rose and Crown Bury side kept up their form by winning 44-57 with beef butties to die for apparently.

Week 19
It is games of the week this week. First is at the Heap Bridge Social Club where they host final game for the Cricketers. The Phoenix Nights lads hold the key to the runners-up spot over the final two weeks of the league and a win will spoil the Cricketers season. With Neville playing it could happen. This will be very close on the night.
Secondly the visit of runners-up challengers Rose Bury to Rose Rammy is also going to be a close affair. Peter Taylor's side can beat anyone so Ian's Rose Bury lads have got to be on top form. An away win but only just is the probable outcome.
Pack Horse have the Taverners visiting. With both teams showing cup-winning form recently this will be a close affair also. An away win may just be the sneaky result, sorry Sue.
Final Game of the week is the Swan B hosting the final league game of the season for the champions-elect Rose Starling with the Rose squad down to a bare minimum for the last week. The Swans will still have to be swimming well on recent form to win, but it could happen if the Rose relax after retaining the league trophy.
Sun Dial and Swan A have free weeks. The Swan A team will probably be appearing at Old Trafford.
