PHIL'S COMMENTS
This weeks delayed report due to illness caused by a dinosaur abcess.
The leaders Rose and Crown Starling travelled to the Stopes Tavern with some trepidation as the Stopes have been unbeaten all year so far, showing some sparkling form on the way. The first round didn’t start to well for the visitors but they still had managed a single point lead by the end, round two saw a maximum for the Stopes team of Paul Gardner, Bert Bullough, Tim Green and Roger Bolt and this meant the lead swopped over. Another close score in round three saw the lead change hands again and with a blow out by the visitors in round 4, the home side stuck on two for a half time lead of one. The Rose team had been worried about the run in for the title and this match was not easing there fears. Round 5 saw the visitors gain a two point advantage. With bonus chances few and far between on the night the next two round were fraught with worry but both sides scored equal points, so it was all down to the last round. The first set saw Stopes draw level on points but then the visitors took hold of the game finally as they didn’t drop another point and Stopes didn’t trouble the scorer again, Rose Starling breathed a sigh of relief and the match finished 37-44 in the visitors favour. And awarded Match of the week.
Swan and Railway A had the title chasing Radcliffe Cricketers visiting and in a well fought match, could not hang on to there tails as they ran away with it in the second half to register a 39-51 score-line in favour of the visitors.
Swan and Railway B’S made the trip up to walmersley rd to visit the SunDial and Barney’s Harem with third place at stake they kept up the pressure on Rammy by easing to a win with a score of 28-48.
Final match was at the Rose and Crown Ramsbottom were the Phoenix lads had made the trip from Heap Bridge with Peter Taylor’s cats purring the phoenix couldn’t get off the ground and they were overcome by a score of 45-32.
PackHorse hosted the friendly this time against the Hairy Hounds but still succumbed on the night to a 33-38 score.
here is the cup draw to be going on with

round 2

Match 1 v Hare and Hounds Holcombe Brook
Match 2 v Swan and Railway A
Feb 23rd week 19
The top match this week is the nail biter at Swan and Railway b where Rose Starling are the visitors, if Rose win the title is theirs but if Swans win or draw it swings back into Cricketers court, the nerves are jangling if Swans play to form tough very tough for the visitors but they may just be playing at top form to swing it by a point.
Hare and Hounds Holcombe have a derby match against Rose Rammy this one is going to be close too, the visitors want that third place but the home comforts of the hairy hounds may just and only just spoil the party!!!
Packhorse Affetside host the Stopes Tavern and although they lost for the first time this year last week I expect that to be a blip and a win is on the cards the home side have been indifferent lately and may be playing for handicap status. Too late there done!
Heap Bridge host Cricketers and any slip up is the end for Phil Dodds lads its out of there hands at the moment the title but this wont be easy either a home win could be on the cards if the phoenix lads hit top form but a draw is not out of the question.
SunDial and Swan A are on a free.
