PHIL'S COMMENTS
Team of the week on this 2nd week of the season has to be Heap Bridge Social Club who after last weeks heavy loss have bounced back to thrash last years runners up Rose and Crown Starling. The Phoenix Nights lads had a “water rats” reunion on the night with Neil Jones, Neville Chadwick, Steve Henly, being joined by Mr W.Vassie a more than able player. With Starling struggling to raise a side on the night because of other committmants and with Anne Thompson suffering from a lost voice they nevertheless took an early lead but then the phoenix lads woke up and took 18 points from rounds 2,3,4 to the visitors 6.With the second half becoming even the home side ran out 44-35 winners. Just pipped for team of the week are Swan and Railway A who again proved that they could be challenging for honours this year by coming from behind at the halfway point to beat slow starters Stopes Tavern 38-41. Match of the week has to be the Swan and Raiway b’s against Rose and Crown Ramsbottom. With last weeks derby defeat the home Swan’s were hoping to bounce back but the early season Rose Rammy are a potent force and both sides settled for a share of the prizes with a 44-44 draw. Reigning champions Radcliffe Cricket club visited the Packhorse Affetside and in a close fought match overcame the hosts with a 43-49 win to again set the pace this season. Final game was the Sundial hosting the Rose and Crown Bury with both teams losing in the first week they both wanted to show improvement and in another close battle the visiting Rose managed to come away with the win 41-46. Week 3 Monday 13th Reigning champions Radcliffe Cricket club host last years runners up Rose Starling in the potential match of the week but with the Rose struggling and the legend Wally suffering burn out syndrome then this could be one sided in the Cricket club’s favour. Rose Bury host Swan B’s the visitors are looking for there opening win but the Rose bury woke up last week so this could go all the way and may even be another draw! Swan A’s have the Packhorse riding in and with Mavis’s new elixir working well the Swans may be just favourites for this one however with the Packhorse running the champions close last week they could sneak a win. Heap Bridge Social Club have the SunDial visiting and on last weeks form the Diallers had better watch out! Rose Rammy host the Stopes Taverners and in a close match the home side may have the early season edge.
