SECRETARY'S COMMENTS
|
Now then, just where do I start!? The impressive form of the Shoulder & Cricketers, the hard luck stories of 3 high scoring losing teams or the Titanic battle at the foot of the table, between last weeks slow starters, who between them failed to muster the same amount of points as the top two.
So off to the Stopes we trot & we welcomed the leagues new-comers & what an asset to the league they are. As expected it was nip & tuck in the early rounds, the only blip, was the visitors coming unstuck on round four when they failed to grasp the thread of GRASS & offered Natter-Jack Toad as the answer to the 1st question & registered a blank, giving Stopes a slender 3 point lead at a miserly 17-14, things can only get better!! For the second week running, the Roses failed to capitalize on the 2 part questions & with 16 points on offer managed to register a woeful 2, to the Legions 9 & we were now trailing by 6......Oh Sugar!!!!! Sadly, the Legion managed to claw defeat from the Jaws of victory & disasterous final 2 Rd's enabled us to nip in through the side door & secure our 1st win 39-37 Phew, to close for comfort!!! Thanks to Trish, Theresa, Andy & John for an enjoyable encounter. After wretched luck last week, the Hairy Hounds were praying for a reversal of fortunes against the Dungeoneers. There was little sign of the Stars aligning in their favour as after 5 rounds they trailed by 2. But hold on a minute, their request for devine intervention was answered & they piled on the points over the final 3 Rd's to win by a "Short Head" 48-45, praise the Lord!!! You've just got to feel for the Legion A & St. Mary's, the cruelest of luck saw them on the wrong end of the results despite recording 51 & 53 points respectively, that really is hard to bare!!! But praise where its due, I doff my Cap in their general direction, bloody marvellous scoring & the Shoulder & Cricketers really are setting the bar very high early on this season & we can only pray their Halo's slip & give us mere mortals a chance of catching them, after such an emphatic start to the season. The Shoulder are surely quaking in their Boots at the thought of their next encounter!!! |
