Week20
After a slight admin mishap, the final league games took place on schedule. Game of the week, and team showing their true scoring form in the last game was the Pack Horse, Affetside hosting the Sun Dial for the honour of finishing in the wooden spoon position. With both teams' scoring belittling their league positions, Mike Pinder's Pack Horse overcame Barney's Sun Diallers and jumped over them to finish 9th. Match score 49-38. The Sun Dial finish at the bottom of the table, but with the rub of the green it could have been much higher. Unlucky chaps but well played all season. Rose and Crown Rammy had the Swan and Railway A team visiting. Peter Taylor's side were hoping to pinch fourth place, depending on other results, and duly won a good contest on the night 47-35. Perhaps Mavis's tonic is not as effective at heights but the Swan A team have still, most fittingly, had an excellent season. Well Done. With a probable disappointed feel about their end of season, the Rose and Crown Bury visited Heap Bridge Social Club and the Phoenix Nights' boys did not take a sympathetic view by overwhelming the third place finishing team 54-36. Final league match on the night was the Swan and Railway B derby match with Stopes Tavern. The Swan B team have ended the season as strong as they started it securing the fourth place finish and bringing to an end the good run of Paul's Taverners, 49-41. Cricketers and Rose Starling were on a free week. Week 21 With the league concluded it is the start of the Handicap Cup. Because of team numbers, 4 teams play in the first round with all other sides given a bye to the quarter finals. The first match is between Cup Holders, Stopes Tavern and the league runners-up, Cricket Club. With a 10 point start the Taverners are confident that they can overcome Phil Dodd's Cricketers in their quest to retain the trophy, but a repeat of this week's form will blow it. Match two is between Swan B and league winners, Rose and Crown Starling. With the Swans earning a bandit handicap of an 8 point start, the Rose will have to be at their best to overturn the result of last week's league match. Legend Wally Warrington is training on a oily fish diet depending on what Kieran and Phil can catch in the Irwell, to enhance his already vast memory. Cup final and Presentation night is looming. Ideas and volunteers to contribute something to the evening are needed please. |
