In the cup this week, a close match was fought out in the War of the Roses. After a minor dispute over handicaps (slip of the pen by myself) thank god for smart phones, the website was consulted and battle was joined. The Rose Starling went first and it seemed to be the wrong choice by half time. 5 points each in rnds 2 and 3 and Rose Rammy were still ahead by the Handicap. Round 3 saw the visitors halve it with a score of 6-2 but it looked like the deficit would be too great, made worse by the visitors blanking on rnd 4, to leave a half time score of 24-16. The Rose Rammy extended their lead to 10 points by winning rnd 5 4-2. Rnd 6 was the turning point for the Roses of Starling with a 13-2 round win to leave them with a single point lead, which disappeared in the next round when the Rammy Roses won it 6-5. So it all came down to rnd 8 and after a miss by the Rammy Roses, the Rose starling vamoosed with the win!
There was another close match, in which the Cricketers beat their nearest rivals in the League The Shoulder of Mutton 43-39. The Dungeon B seem to have got used to the quiz format and have done very well in the Cup. In last nights match they beat The Hairy Hounds by 12 points and are semi-finalists (at least) in their first season. And what can I say about the Stopes (the Elves have risen again-(apologies to JRR Tolkein). A 24 point win over The Dungeon A even allowing for the Handicap is a tremendous success |
