SECRETARY'S COMMENTS
|
Week 3 & down at the Stopes Tavern it was the inform Roses against their not so in-form flat mates, the Cricketers & on paper it was a no-brainer, 2 points to the Stopes Roses, back of the net!!
Phil Dodd was desperate to kick-start their season after an almost unheard of double blank for the earstwhile champions in-waiting. Phil had draughted in the big guns, in the shape of Mark Dobson & the old adage of an animal being most dangerous when it is wounded, would prove to be never more true, as they put the Stopes Roses to the sword. In an impressive explosion of scoring in the opening 2 rounds, they secured a certain victory leading 19-4, it was game over. At 28-10 down at the half way stage, it was clear that this quiz was alien to Bob, Terry, Ann & Linda, who collectively scratched their heads at almost every question, just forget it, it wasnt our night & the pain continued to the final whistle, this weeks wooden spoon was awarded to the hapless homesters who mustered a miserly 35, against a massive 54 to the Cricketers & we all doffed our caps in deference to the worthy winners, well played Phil, Tony, Mark & Ken, we are not worthy!!! In an almost mirror image of this game, as the Shoulder took on Rammy British Legion (RBL) who fared slightly better as they matched the homesters 11 a piece at 2 rounds in & were within striking distance at half way, only trailing by 6 points 26-20. The champions showed their class by piling on the points, care of a classy 12 points in the stick or twist round (more on this to come later!!) whilst RBL failed to make any inroads into the defecit & the writing was on the wall. Yet another classy performance from Jason & Co as they registered the top score of the night winning 57 - 38 as they continue to their excellent start to the season in defence of their title. Meanwhile back at the Dungeon, it was A vs B & in the closest of games, it was blow fo blow right throughout the game. But what I have to report is the 16 points amassed in round 6 by the B team, what can I say, other than, REEESPECT!!! I have wracked my brains & I am not aware If this feat has ever being achieved before??.....txt me if you can prove me wrong, Dave Russell must have whipped his boys into a pre-match frenzy, but despite their heroic effort in Rd 6, they just failed to take the points losing by the single point 46-45, great game, well played all 8. Last up St. Marys, who took on Ian & his Hairy Hounds. On paper it was very evenly matched, way too close to call, even money on both. Ian would have been desperate to put last weeks defeat behind him & get back to winning ways, albeit a tall order against the league leaders. Sadly it wasnt to be, St. Marys are proving to be a tough nut to crack, who made it 3 out of 3, they are matching the Shoulder & these 2 have put a little daylight between themsleves & the chasing pack. Early to bed with no supper & the Encyclopaedia Britannica for our lot, onwards & upwards!!! PLEASE!!! remember to send me numbers for the Xmas Quiz & a reminder that we need as many Bottles & Boxes of Chocolates etc for the Raffle. It isnt just limited to 1 prize per team, if you are feeling particularly benevolent, all donations are welcome, the more the merrier. Now then, wheres my Sat-Nav, more importantly, where the hell is RBL?? |
