The Shoulder of Mutton were our hosts this week, for what was on current form, was a contest of David & Goliath proportions.
With Stopes electing to go 1st, after the 1st question, it was level pegging at 1 apiece & it was looking promising!!! Following our “Flying Start†it rapidly went downhill, suffering on the wrong end of one of the most impressive team performances I have witnessed in a long time!! The Shoulder team of Jason, Steven, Andrew & Kris were on electrifying form & it was the 3rd question of Rd 7 before they dropped another point. We floundered in the wake of a side making an impressive start to the season & in defence of their 3rd consecutive title, resistance was futile!! We hung on, trying to keep the gap as close as possible, but all in vain, we were well & truly put to the Sword, final score 63-34…ouch!!! Needless to say the performance of the night & Team of the Week goes to the Shoulder. The Cricketers are also in a rich vein of form & in a very similar scoring game, keep hot on the heels of the champs & put in a very creditable performance against the Dungeon B winning to 59-37, is there a 2 Horse race developing early on in the season? Ian Openshaw was away Rolling with the Stones & his encyclopaedic knowledge of everything, was possibly the difference in the Hairy Hounds pushing towards the 50 point mark. Nevertheless, the Hounds ran out fairly comfortable winners against RBL & so Margaret’s Merry Men (& women) are still looking for their 1st points of the season, 40-33 to the Hounds. St Mary’s continue their solid start to the season & are snapping at the Heels of the 2 unbeaten sides above them. Away at the Dungeon A, the hosts offered stern resistance & whilst always playing catch-up, they were always within striking distance, but just couldn’t wear the visitors down & shook hands on a 40-49 defeat. Can I please remind all teams to settle up their league fees of £55.00 ASAP. |
