SECRETARY'S COMMENTS
|
Week 4 & there is a very tasty encounter going on up at the Hare & Hounds as the local derby with the Shoulder of Mutton would provide the high aggregate of the night. All square at 2 rounds in with a very credible 14 points a piece, care of a full houses in the individual round from the visitors. The Shoulder continued to dominate & finished the 1st half with the full compliment in the stick or twist & forged ahead to lead by 7, 24-31. The Hairy Hounds held on in there & actually outscored their opponents in the 2nd half, but the 7 point buffer would prove just a bridge too far as, despite a valiant effort, could only reduce the deficit to 6, going down 50-56.
Could they hold on to the rarified atmosphere at the top of the table?? over to the Dungeon B to see if Dave Russell could throw St Marys under the bus!! Unfortunatley not......again registering the high score of the night, Alec has got his squad firing on all cylinders and a massive 61 points was way to high a target to chase & the top of the table clash on the 5th could prove a very decisive game, for the fortunes of the Bury Quiz Leagues very own Galacticos!!! Phil Dodd is still struggling to come to terms with modern technology. He is a highly intelligent guy, but the magic of texting is somehow frazzling his aching brain, so again at the second attempt, I\\\'ve just received last nights result...& their early woes continue to frustrate them, as they entertained the Dungeon A in another highly competitive & high scoring game. Honours even in this match & it produced the 1st draw of the season, as they both no doubt mulled over missed opportunities in a fine 50 - 50 result. The Stopes Roses enjoyed the hospitality of Margaret & gang, up at the newest venue in the league & were serenaded all night by the Shooby Dooby Doo Wop of the Swing Band practicing upstairs & very enjoyable it was too. Which can\'t be said of yet another abject start from the visitors!! Yet another no-show in the opening 2 rounds saw us trailiing 16-3 & this gave us another mountain to climb. Whilst we kept chipping away at the gap, it would innevitably prove to be our un-doing, well played RBL, for a deserved win 44 - 42 Another highly competitve week, there is already a familiar look to the league table, can it last?? I am still short of numbers for the Xmas Quiz, PLEASE!!! give me a clue, otherwise I\\\'m going for 60 pies of assorted flavours & hope for the best.. |
