Week6Monday 3rd Nov
With the country basking in the glory of wheeled world champions and winners in both pedal power and horse power and forgetting our dismal drubbing at the rugby league world cup, it was a fantastic competitive set of Monday night quiz league fixtures. Contender for match of the week was the top of the table clash at the Rose and Crown Starling who had local derby side Packhorse Affetside visiting. The match was tight throughout and if one team gained an advantage in one round then the other caught up in the next. The Packhorse had a strong side this week with Simon Waddington, James Perkin, and Mike and Sue Pinder taking a break from rehearsals for Tottington Amateur Dramatic Society’s latest production (which opens next week some tickets still available –book early) but even with a predicted win to give them confidence, a nervous last round and with the legend Wally Warrington at last showing signs of form for the home side the round was drawn for a match result of 45-44. The match of the week was a difficult choice this week but the award went to another one point win for the home side at Rose and Crown Bury where Ian Openshaw’s team, just managed to hold on and overcome the Swan A’s. The Swan’s were ahead at the half and only a good 4 or 2 round saw the Rose Bury take the lead a blank in the final round made it a nervy time for the home team but mavis’s tonic just wasn’t strong enough on the night score 39-38. The team of the week went to the Stopes Taverner’s who have woken up to the quiz season at long last and finally have won a match, the visitors (and victims)to the Stopes Tavern were the unlucky SunDial Wamersly Rd who have played well this season for little reward, were the wrong end of a 47-35 result. Final game for this week was the visit to the Rose and Crown Ramsbottom of the champions and so far unbeaten this season Radcliffe Cricket Club, Peter Taylor’s home team have had a tough few weeks and this was no exception when they succumbed to the visitors by a score of 37-53. Week 7Monday 10th Nov Another full set of fixtures this week with the re-arranged match between Rose Rammy and Stopes Tavern with the improving Stopes winning at last Peter Taylor’s cats may have to claw there way to a win but this one will be very tight indeed and a draw might be on the scratching post. Match of the week may be the clash at The Cricketers where Rose Bury will be hoping to bowl a few bouncers at there unbeaten record but form may just tell. Ian’s ROSE’S will have to be in full bloom. Swan and Railway A host the Phoenix lads from Heap Bridge and were just pipped for match of the week with last weeks narrow loss still ringing in there ears, this week they may have to suffer again against the title contending Phoenix Knights, but you never know with mavis’s tonic!!! Pack Horse host the visiting Swan B’s, with there recent form on the up the Swan’s could be to strong again for last years cup final repeat but if the AmDram doesn’t intervene the Packhorse will be a different kettle of fish than finals night!!! Rose Starling visit the SunDial and in a match that will be hard fought the SunDial will run the visitors close but still may be on the wrong end of a result yet again close but an away win unless the girls hit form! We have a team that are looking to play a few friendlies so contact Phil. |
