SECRETARY'S COMMENTS
|
Week 6, its almost the half-way stage, so lets start off at the top of the table clash, up at the Shoulder. Only goal difference seperated the leagues high-flyers & whoever maintained their 100% record tonight would phsyocologically place one hand on the trophy, so let battle commence....
The Shoulder held a slender 3 point lead of 10 to 7 after 2 rounds, the 1st individual round was a stinker & only reaped a total of 6 points for the top 2. Round 3 saw the Shoulder increase the lead to 5, but the real killer blow was dealt in the stick or twist, when St Marys drew a blank. Although the visitors were down, they were not out yet & they prayed for divine intervention & a reversal of fortunes after the break, would their prayers be answered?? Well, to a degree yes & despite only registering a paltry 2 points in the stick or twist round, to the Shoulders 12, St Mary\\\\\\\'s actually out-scored them 27 to 23, but the damage was done early on & they shook hands after a valiant fight back at 47 - 38. 1st blood to Jason & the right on form Shoulder. Phil Dodd & the Cricketers took on RBL, with Phil keen to close the gap above them, knowing only a draw in the top game would prevent any real damage being done. The cosy glow of the newly installed open fire in the Snug at the Stopes is proving a real motivation & they ground out a hard fought win 46-36 Dungeon B mosyed?? on up to the Hairy Hounds & I think its fair to say they struggled (as we did) & in an almost mirror image of our game they failed to make sense of the most one-sided imbalanced quiz of the season. After the 5 previous weeks of perfectly pitched questions, this one was a stinker!! Half way, its game over, Ians Hounds were leading 23 - 7 ouch!! As in the top game, fortunes were far more favourable in the second half as the Dungeon found the going much nore to their liking & almost matched the Hounds, but sadly it was all in vain, another emphatic win for the Hare & Hounds 52 - 28 I\\\\\\\'m still uncontrollably rocking back & forth after the mauling we suffered up at the Dungeon, with the A-team earning their eponymous title in buckets!! All to often we were left scratching our heads, we set off badly, convinced our opening answer of London Poplar was correct & when it went against us, it set the tone for the rest of the 1st half. Trailing in the wake of the impressive form of Adrian, Tony, Marcus & Bruce we were royally battered 25-10 in the 1st half & that included a blank in Rd4 for the Dungeon.... Visibly shaken we set about regaining some respectability & despite a late rally of 14 points in the last 2 rounds, we were already well on the road to a heavy defeat. I have to applaud the homesters, who realistically could have almost made 60 if they hadn\\\\\\\'t jumped in on Q1 in the stick or twist, one very impressive performance winning 53 - 35 very well done to the Dungeon. Glad that ones over, hopefully ne xst weeks light hearted Xmas Quiz will be the perfect tonic for our wounded morale?? I know Im like a broken record, but please come along in your massses & support next weeks quiz, the more the merrier, bonus points will be awarded to everyone who turns up in a festive jumper............dream on!!!
