Week7Monday 10th Nov
With everyone up to there elbows in leaf matter due to council cuts, team members dug there way into means of transport and removed the hedgehogs camping under there wheels, and made there windswept way to the venues for another very evenly matched set of league fixtures. Match of the week was the closely fought contest at the Packhorse Affetside who had the favoured Swan B’s visiting in a repeat of last seasons cup final and in a match that went very close, as the Swan’s staged a comeback in the final round, the Packhorse held on to win 46-42. In the re-arranged fixture at Rose and Crown Ramsbottom , the late to start the season Stopes Tavern were hoping to carry on there winning ways, but in another very close contest Peter Taylor’s Rose team found there winning form again to gain a slight advantage with a score of 51-46. Rose and Crown Bury were the visitors to leaders Radcliffe Cricket club and if Ian Openshaw’s lads had scored well on the individuals then this might have been a different result, but the leaders carry on unbeaten, as they register a 58-50 win. Swan and Railway A have enjoyed there best start to the season so far but with injuries taking there toll and emergency replacements called for, they still managed to be only 3 points behind at the break, but with Mavis’s tonic not quite imbibed enough, they succumbed to the title contending visitors Heap Bridge Social Club, who seem to be gaining in confidence in every match, not surprising with the weather at the moment for the former “water rats”. The score 26-52. Final game this week was the SunDial Walmersly Rd hosting the Rose and Crow Starling, with Barney, Mr Webb, Anne Lee-Nicolson and the heavily expectant Helen Lee in the SunDial team, their league position belies there form, as a defeat is only a fine line from a win, the SunDial has always seemed to land the wrong side of the line this season. In a close match which only the individual round really let the home side down, the visitors Take That and batman villain expert Kieran Goldsborough scored well alongside Bob Selby with the legend Wally and Terry in support to take the match 40-50. Week 8Monday 17th Nov Top match of the week is tipped to be the clash between Heap Bridge Social Club and Rose and Crown Rammy, with Peter Taylor’s Rammy Cats yo-yoing form wise I cant see them beating title contending Phoenix Knights but it will be very close. Swan and Railway B host the SunDial Walmersly Rd a look at the league table on the web would show that, a result would go the home sides way but the SunDial have been playing well and just missing out in certain areas however if they all click and Helen is not in maternity then this could be surprisingly close. Radcliffe Cricket Club host this years wildcard Swan A’s and if all is back to good health and Mavis’s tonic has been drunk in quantity then a surprise may occur, but it will be a home win anyway! Whatever the surprise is! Final match this week is Rose and Crown Starling hosting the Stopes Taverners with Stopes slipping again after waking up a fortnight ago it could be a tough task this week but with Rose Starling still struggling for consistency you never know, closer than the hosts may like but a narrow home win favoured. Rose Bury are hosting the Pack horse on a practice friendly for there free night. We have a team that are looking too play a few friendlies so contact Phil. A new challenge is always welcome from any pub, club, or society wanting to test their metal against a regular league side.
