PHIL'S COMMENTS
Week 7 9th Nov
This Monday the pea souper fogs of old returned with typical post bonfire night air of smog about it. With all venues turning the heating up it seemed to have shut down the brain cells as all teams posted relative low scores, Peter Taylors comments were tonight it were a “shot” quiz or maybe I heard it wrong.
Team of the week this round of matches goes to the Sundial Walmersly road who opened there account in style with a win over high scoring Swan and Railway Radcliffe B. Barney and the Harem know when the going gets tough, the tough will come up trumps and although there was only one point in it, a win is a win and deserved. Final Score 31-30.
Rose and Crown Rammy had the Hairy Hounds climbing the heights and in one of the most even matches in the quiz league history, reports Ian Openshaw, the Rose Rammy won four rounds and the Hounds won four rounds, the beer leg finished even and both teams gave the same answer to the tie break, the score was an honourable draw at 36 points all.
With another close match held at Rammy Cricket club where the visitors were the PackHorse Affetside with scores level going into the last round the visiting Pack lads and Sue gained revenge for there defeat at home a couple of weeks back by just squeezing at two point advantage at the final whistle a close contender for match of the week.
The match at Heap Bridge Social club saw the visiting Swan and Railway A side struggle for points and the home side were only just marginally better but the Phoenix Knights Took the match with a score of 35-26 .
Final match this week was at the Rose and Crown Starling where the yuletide revellers of Stopes Tavern (for those that don’t know Stopes traditionally only start to win regularily after the Christmas Festivities normally, so this year they are celebrating the festive season every Sunday and it is working for them!!!) The visitors elected to go first in the first half and came to earth with a bump by only scoring two against the home side who again only scored on one of there questions but picked up two bonus points to score four.Round two individuals saw both teams struggle again with Anne Thompson the only points scorer for the home team the elves of the tavern picked up two bonus points to score six.Round Three saw some decent scoring from both sides and the Rose pulled back the deficit to only one point with there knowledge of bald horses. Now Stick or twist normally gets one team going or another, this week it got both teams going to the bar, as the visitors gambled and lost on question two and the home side didn’t gamble and stuck on one, luckily, as the author was not Ronnie Corbett as a team member insisted, mentioning no names eh, terry. Half time score 14-14 with both teams trying to arrange a twenty point add on if the scores remain this low at the finish!!! After refreshments and foggy air was taken for the afflicted round five ended with six points a piece and both corrie and Eastender characters identified by men! Round six the four or two round can make or break teams and the visiting Taverner’s took a two point lead going into the final individual round. Now I seem to recall a question just last week, was it on the Porche Factory H.Q. Yes I Think it may have been where was it located and most teams I am sure put the location as Stuttgart Germany but a certain
Mr TIM GREEN
relocated the factory to Strasborg which is in France I’m sure they would welcome the Porche Family into there midst but after a few years they would make a complete citroen out of the company, boy were the Tavern elves fuming on the night. With another point gained in the round the elves took a 32-35 lead into the final round. Extinct animals came to the rescue for the home side who managed to haul the three point gap back and secure a draw on the night. The elves of the tavern who were Paul Gardener,Roger Bolt, Bert Bullough and Tim (Mr PORCHE) Green, drop only a point and the Rose team of Kieran, Anne, Terry and Lee,show some form again. Will it last...... Final score 38-38.
Now normally the match of the week would have been easy but this week there was four out of five matches that all shared match of the week. So even though the matches were tough look how competitive games were!!!!
The Radcliffe Cricketers were resting this week or as one anonymous team member put it after the game, lucky b*****s.

Week 8 Monday 16th Nov
This weeks fixtures are going to be tough to predict after last weeks form book upsets, match of the week looks to be the game at Stopes Tavern who have the Rammy Cricketers visiting with a draw last week Paul Gardners home side will want to get back to full Christmas Cheer this week and the visiting Rammy Cricketers will want to bounce back from their defeat close match and the home side will have to be careful but a home win is on the cards ..... just.
Hairy Hounds have the Phoenix knights invading on recent form the home side should take the match but the knights have been stirring from there slumber and this might not be as straight forward as it seems, a home win but only just and a draw is a possibility!!
Swan and Railway derby week hosted by the b’s this time with mavis’s tonic affecting both sides the form book says the b’s but this weeks result say’s a’s, a close fought contest will be the outcome but the b’s are forecast the winners but only by a whisker.
Sun Dial have Rose Rammy visiting and after the win this week barney and the harem will want to strike back to back wins, they have a chance, but Peter Taylor’s tigers may just pounce for a close hard fought win..... maybe!!!
Final game this week is the Radcliffe Cricketers hosting the Packhorse Affetside with a revenge win thias week against rammy cricketers still fresh they will want to do the Cricket club double and Phil Dodd’s men are maybe vunerable again for this week only after a free weeks rest if Sue has the lads in full training this could just be an upset so to speak, and it will be closer than the Cricketers expect but a home win ...... just!
Rose Starling will be picking there noses and flicking it at the league tables this week.
