SECRETARY'S COMMENTS
Week 7 already & we reach the half way stage of the season before we take a well earned winter break.

The Stopes Roses were desperate to end their recent poor run of form & where best to seek a win, only at the ever so recent league leaders, St Mary\'s. Alec would be looking to get back on track after their recent blip against the Shoulder & it was looking ever so familiar for the visitors as we made another sluggish start & after 2 rounds trailed by 7 points 8-15, was the writing on the wall??

Garnering maximum points from rounds 3 & 4, saw us close the gap ever so slightly at the half way stage & a 5 point defecit, didn\'t seem quite so bad, as we headed off to the bar 24-29 down. Round 5 saw a 5 point swing in our favour & suddenly we are back level at 31 across. We made further ground in rounds 6 & 7 & a massive 10 points in the last round saw us over the line to a fairly comfortable win 56-45 & a good nights work from Ann, Terry, Lee & Bob saw us return to winning ways. The notable stat of the night was that St Marys only took one bonus point off us all game, spooky!!!

Back at base, the Cricketers were up against the Hairy Hounds & with both sides jockeying for positions just behind the leaders, the result could be decisive in either team staking a claim for a serious title challenge.

The Hounds set off like a Train & piled on the points as they raced to a commanding half time lead of 30-23, despite Phil registering a full house in the stick or twist.
In an almost identical sequence of scoring from both sides in the second half, it would mean the gap was just to big to close down & in the final analysis, it was lost in the individual rounds as the Hounds registered 14 to the Cricketers measley 5, but credit to both sides as they registered the high aggregate of the night care of a fine 59-51 win & Phil must be cursing his luck, scoring 51 & losing....Ouch!!!

The Shoulder had their hands full against the Dungeon A as they actually trailed 27-23 at the half way stage & again, in what must have been the easiest stick or twist ever, they both scored maximum 8 points in round 4. The half time rub down seemed to do the trick & the Shoulder showed their class by winning all 4 rounds as they cemented their position at the top with a hard fought win against the dogged Dungeoners, 55-47.

Now then!!! I\'ve saved the best to last. Dave Russell & his band of extremely merry men, welcomed Margaret & RBL into their lair. The scene was set, the open fire was on full throttle, a heady concoction of smouldering Anthracite & pine needles & the rich hypnotic aroma of Daves favourite Brut aftershave, produced a mind altering cocktail, which had the desired effect of stupifying the opposition. The Dungeon rampaged their way to their 1st win of the season, as a no-show from RBL allowed them a massive 20 point victory 49-29 & THEIR CHRISTMAS CERTAINLY HAD COME EARLY!!!

With an average score of almost 49, it would suggest it was rather an easy quiz?? It seemed to be perfectly pitched at a level we all enjoyed, lets hope there is more to come.

It only remains for me to wish you all a very merry Christmas, good health & a peaceful & happy 2017

Apologies for the delay, but I will be adding comments to the Xmas Quiz page.
