SECRETARY'S COMMENTS
|
Lets start down at St. Mary's where there the Stopes Roses were hoping to continue there winning streak of 1 game, against their near neighbours. Stopes elected to go 1st & rued there decision when trailing by 3 points after the 1st round. This small gap was uncannily maintained for the next 6 rounds, when we just couldn't shake each other off. A late flurry saw the gap extend to 5 as the home side ran out relieved winners at 49-44. A keenly fought game & good company ensured we all retired with a smile on our faces & we rued our slow start.
Up the Valley in Ramsbottom, the Legion A&B were locking Horns. The A team flexed thie collective muscles & made light work of their B team & registered the high score of the night, with a hefty 58-23 win. Keep battling away B team, its a hard School in your 1st season, but your 1st win is looming, hopefully not next week though!!
The next game was a potential proverbial 6 pointer. The Cricketers were still licking their wounds after last weeks defeat & Ian's Hungry Hounds knew a positive result tonight would put them in joint equal second & stake their claim as potential contenders, should the Shoulders Halo ever slip!? The Hounds registered their intent with a full house in Rd1 & led by 2, only for their flying start to be in vain as the Cricketers blasted ahead care of 9 points in the individual round to a faltering 4 from the Hounds. Honours almost even over the next 2 rounds saw them split by a solitary point at the half way stage.
The 2nd half saw the pendulum swung in favour of Phils Cricketers & they would run out comfortable winners by 7 points, 51-44 & get the good ship back on course.
Now then, could the Shoulders impressive 100% start continue against the Dungeon?? Well only just is the answer.....as Mike reports that yet again & for the second week runnig they ran out on the wrong end of a 1 point differential in the scoreline. Desperately hard luck to the Dungeon as a 1 question shoot out sealed their fate & the Shoulder got lucky!!
Can I remind everyone that the Christmas Quiz is on the horizon & that as usual, we can see the Festive Season in with a bit of fun down at St. Marys on the 17th. Can Captains send me numbers please & dip into their pockets to muster up a prize or 3 for the Raffle.
