PHIL'S COMMENTS
Week9Monday 24th Nov
With a cold raw wind blowing from the north it was nice to have a nice warm hostelry to curl up in and answer a few quiz questions. This weeks quiz matches were all highly competitive with one strange exception.
Match of the week was the game at Rose and Crown Ramsbottom where Rose and Crown Bury were climbing the hill to visit and in a close match which went all the way, Peter Taylor’s cats were purring again after just pipping Ian Openshaws Rose Bury by just a point 47-46.
Team of the week was the game at Stopes Tavern where the Packhorse Affetside were tying up this week and in a match that the home side took by the scruff of the neck and ran away with, Paul Gardener’s team hit the form they have been threatening too. They scored heavily on the night to win 51-37.
Almost match of the week was the close encounter at the Cricket ground Radcliffe, in a top of the table clash, the phoenix knights of Heap Bridge were visiting and in a match where rounds were close the champions and leaders cemented there place at the top for Christmas and beyond by just taking the match 46-43.
Final match this week was the Rose and Crown Starling who had the Swan b’s gliding in. The Swan’s have been showing well again this season and with Alec Fontaine acquiring pop knowledge it seems, along with Enid Cathcart, John Hill and Harry Wilkinson the Swans twice fought back from deficits in rounds one and two and five and six to almost tying the match on the final question, the legend Wally missing out on the roman numerals question and that after he was taught by Plato himself, excellent match on the night which the home side thought they would either lose, draw and finally win in the final round but only just 53-51.
Swan A’s and the SunDial were on a free week .
Week 10Monday 1rst Dec
Top match of the week is the derby match at Stopes Tavern were Swan B’S are the visitors with equal scores on last weeks showing though different results this will be close the home side has finally decided the season has started after eight warm up matches could take this by one point but the Swan’s are difficult to beat at the best of times and they may just grab the win.
Swan a’s get back into action with a home tie against Rose Rammy, the Rammy cats are purring at the moment but if Mavis has had her tonic brewing this could be close and a home win might be the outcome, but the visitors could take a hold of the match early and stroll away with it....
Sun Dial Walmersly Rd have the Pack Horse galloping in and in a surprise prediction this may be the first win of the season for the home side it will be close but the visitors have been faltering of late with other committments pressing.
Final game this week is another potential match of the week at Rose Bury where the Heap Bridge Phoenix Lads are on tour again, with the Rose having an up and down season the Heap Bridge team are challenging for top honours and will have to get straight back into winning ways to keep there place, an away win but they have to be careful!!!
Rose Starling is trying to arrange a friendly and Leaders RCC are on a free week. The Christmas get together is approaching and the top prize could be a Sat Nav thanks to our sponsors Bury Reprographics Ltd.
A new challenge is always welcome from any pub, club, or society wanting to test their metal against a regular league side. Contact details along with the league tables are on the website.
